Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend!
Friday I went to the surgeon to get my cast switched out (they expand and need to stay tight). I got a good look at my frankenfoot scar, which actually is healing so well. If you are curious and want to see a photo, click here. If not, just move along – nothing to see here.
I scheduled my cast removal for September 9th – that's less than 1 week from now! I will be able to start walking on it again, but will need to keep the knee walker for transitioning as it will be a little rough getting back on that foot and leg after six weeks of being off it. I am so excited to be somewhat independent again. I haven't driven since surgery, and have only made trips to the doctor. To make the moment of cast removal more awesome, I booked an appointment at my doctors new PEDspa where everything is surgically sterilized and they can be prepared to handle my gnarly foot with care.
I'll be in a boot for a while, and will do physical therapy to strengthen the leg and tendon. Light at the end of the anklegate tunnel! Fingers crossed the surgery is as successful as I think it will be.
Another countdown that I keep forgetting? Whole30! I've wrapped up day 21 and feel great. I added some pork chops to the menu rotation tonight and they were great. Seasoned with sea salt, onion powder, garlic powder, pepper, and smoked paprika. Seared in a pan with olive oil, then reduced heat and covered with a lid until done.
And now in awkward transitions, I give you my outfit photo from the one time I got out of the house this week *trumpets sounding* It's a triumph as the photo demonstrates that I showered, did my hair, did my makeup, put on something other than pajamas, and crawled down the stairs to get out the garage (on all 4's. It's a pretty sight.)

Moving on: I meant to share this article a couple of weeks ago and completely blanked. It's one of the best things I've read in a long time. No matter what your size or fitness ability, I beg you to go read it.
Of Tiny Dumbbells and Fat Chicks by Carrie Patrick
I saw a picture on Facebook recently: a smoking hot woman, all abs and skintight shorts and straining bra, deadlifting multiple plates over the slogan “STRONG IS SEXY.” And inspiring as that visual might be, I couldn’t help asking myself … okay, if strong is sexy, why do all the people making “strong is sexy” images make sure to only show people who look like that? Why not, say, Sarah Robles? Holley Mangold? I’m pretty sure either of them could put any 20 randomly chosen Facebook commenters into a basket together and overhead-press them…
Seriously, how good was that?! 100 bonus points since she mentioned 2 of my idols: Sarah Robles and Holley Mangold.
Last but not least: would love if you'd join me over on Instagram, @authemmie. Especially if you post photos of animals. Or coffee. Or glitter.
