All of the stuff in this post is PERSONAL. I don't condone doing this or anything else without speaking to a medical professional. Also? PLEASE don't leave me comments about how what I'm eating is good or bad. It just is what it is. I respect all forms of eating: vegan, vegetarian, low carb, primal, paleo, raw food, etc. Please respect mine, and know that I'm doing all of this under medical supervision.
I quickly mentioned in this previous post that I went to a new doctor and had a bunch of tests ordered for me.
Friends, I haven't lost a single pound in months. 5 months. I've bounced up and down within 10 pounds for 5-flipping-months. To try to fix this, I changed what I was eating. I counted calories. I eliminated carbs (something I did the first 60 pounds). Then I switched to Paleo about 6 weeks ago. As far as exercise goes, I've changed workouts a few different times: all cardio. All weights. A mixture. Nothing at all. It is SO HARD to stay focused and excited about a weight loss journey that isn't going anywhere. It's one thing if I were sabotaging myself by eating too much or exercising too little. But to keep trying over and over for 5 months is like beating your head against a wall. Seriously.
So, in my first meeting with the doctor (who was recommended by my trainers), we talked about my weight loss, how long I've been stalled, my edema, how my energy is throughout the day, what sleep is like, and what I've tried to get things moving. She asked about foods I ate and took lots of notes. Based on how I answered her questions, she ordered several blood labs, a saliva test, and a sleep study. She explained that we were going to explore food sensitivities, all kinds of hormone levels, and sleep patterns. I had the blood drawn that day, but must wait until day 19 of my (female) cycle to spit several times a day into several of these:
My sleep study (which will be done at home, thankfully – portable machine!) isn't until the beginning of November. This was making me anxious because I've been at the breaking point for quite a while now. Between the waiting on the saliva test and the sleep study, it will be mid-November before I will get all my results back. This sounds awful, but I want something to be wrong with me. For years I've been told all my routine bloodwork is “normal.” But what about other things? Surely they can test for more?! And so we are.
Today, I got an unexpected call from the doctors office, who received my blood labs back already. I was instructed to eliminate beef and eggs from my diet.
I might have yelled “WHAT?”
Beef and eggs. My staples in a paleo/low-carb diet. I literally have pre-cooked steak and eggs sitting in my refrigerator to heat up at any moment when hunger strikes. This morning, I was running late for work and cracked 2 eggs in a bowl and threw them in the microwave – instant protein!
Here's what I already don't eat because it makes me feel bad:
- gluten, flour, grains, rice, etc.
- sugar or artificial sweeteners
- corn or anything fed with corn
At least I can still eat (local, nitrate free, sugar free) BACON!
So for dinner , I ate chicken (which I'm not a major fan of because I suck at cooking it) and broccoli and some sweet potato. I stared at my 4 pounds of beef and two dozen eggs in my refrigerator wondering what to do with it. I'll try to get hubs to eat it up. Or give it to my mother in law or carnivorous brothers-in-law.
I don't know much more right now other than I showed sensitivity to those 2 items in particular, and that I've been instructed by my doctor to get rid of them. I know we also tested for pork, poultry, shellfish, etc. so these must have been the only ones that were affecting me.
So that's where I'm at. I'll let you know what the rest of the results are when I get them. Thanks for sticking with me 🙂
PS: before you comment, please remember my little plea at the top of this post!
