Back in June, ModCloth blew the lid off their plus size clothing. In the past, they had a couple pieces here or there and the sizing was a little weird, with a size 4x being a 22, so I never purchased.
Now though? They are an amazing example of a company embracing the “power of plus.” According to their statistics:
- More U.S. women report wearing a size 16 dress than a size 2 and 0 combined.
- ⅓ of U.S. women wear a mix of what is considered standard and plus sizes.
- 57% of U.S. women wear at least some clothing in sizes 16 and above.
My style is more classic/prep than vintage/retro, so I've perused the ModCloth site for a while now, waiting for something that both caught my eye and fit my aesthetic. Enter the Coach Tour Dress.
(Note: $20 off $50 ModCloth purchase for first time buyers at the end of this post!)
I'm wearing it in Violet in a size 4X, which used to be labeled as a size 22. I should have gotten a 3X because of some gaping under the arms and excess material in the waist, and sure enough, looking at the size chart now, they label the 4X as a 28/30. It looks like they changed the size chart since I ordered as the measurements seem different because I referenced them before ordering. The material has stretch, so it's really forgiving. All this being said that even if you're a 32, check out some of their styles because they will likely have things that you can make work. It's important to note that these are different designers on the site, so the fit/cut may be different depending on the brand.
I already wore the dress after I realized my size mistake, so I won't be exchanging it. It's fine how it is and I plan on wearing a cardigan with it as it gets cooler so there shouldn't be any exposure under the arms. I also plan on adding tights or leggings as it gets cooler. Just a fun, easy, comfortable dress.
This dress is also available in red, houndstooth, and a navy blue.
All in all, I'm super excited about ModCloth plus sizes after this purchase. Here are a few other picks I'm currently mulling over:
Amidst the Mountains Cardigan, $69.99
Sheer Gladness Top, $39.99
Pep Rally Perfection Coat, $69.99
