Today I'm excited to bring a spotlight to a plus size brand I've not worn before, Ulla Popken. They're not new to the world of plus fashion – in fact, this German brand has been around since 1993, has over 300 stores in Europe, and offers sizes 12W–38W! Yes, friends – extended plus size options abound at this company.
I've received Ulla Popken catalogs in the mail (they send them ten times a year across the US) but hadn't ever seen anyone cover them so I was unsure about sizing. I suspect this might be the case with others as well so I was excited to try some of their items.
I think companies throw around the term “effortlessly chic” a lot, but this matte jersey dress truly does epitomize that. The material is extremely comfortable and stretchy, washes very easily, and would be perfect for travel as it doesn't wrinkle. Plus, pockets!
Styling ideas
This is also a really versatile dress, style-wise. You could wear it:
- On its own as I did here with nude pumps and simple accessories
- As a casual look: Add a denim jacket and knee-high boots
- Dressed up for work: Layer a cropped cardigan or a fitted blazer over with some power pumps
- Winter favorite: Cover up in a long knit cardigan with tights and booties
Ulla Popken Sizing and Fit:
I'm 5'10 and wearing the size 24/26 in this style. I have another look I'm bringing to you next month, and have a 3rd style I also tried on. Based on the fit of all the items, I'd say they run large. Perhaps not a full size large, but if you're between two sizes I'd advise for the smaller. As always, triple check the size charts and fabric composition to make the best choice for you! For example, I always look to see what material and how much stretch is in an item before deciding whether to size up or not. While it may seem that plus size options are on the rise in the mainstream, they often stop at sizes 18, or in some cases, 24. Extended plus options (those beyond a 24) are extraordinarily hard to find. The fact that Ulla Popken offers a wide range of styles from casual to work to swim and intimates; plus options to a 38W is extremely impressive and also needed in the fashion space.
