Recently, I've been eyeing plaid everywhere. Plaid and I haven't always been close, so I thought the holidays would be a good time to give it another try. My friend Reah shared a few plaid Catherines pieces recently, so when I was looking for my next outfit to share from them I went straight for the plaid. It screamed “casual, but make it festive!” It's the opposite of my last Catherines look: a lace party dress.
High rise jegging c/o Catherines
This plaid shirt is great for layering and wearing with jeans or leggings for running errands during this busy time of year. The plaid also comes in blue and gray in addition to this festive red. All of the colors have a slight shimmer thread running throughout to elevate the look. Plaid, but make it fancy!
For an extra layer of warmth that is different from a standard sweater or fleece, this poncho worked well and is seriously soft. There's also a zipper detail if you want to wear it as a poncho versus as a wrap as I am here. I have another look coming up soon where I pair this same poncho with a dress – can't wait to show you the versatility there!
As a lover of high-waist anything and a strong desire for everything comfortable right now, these high rise jeggings fit the bill. They're super stretchy, soft, and comfy. They're definitely something you grab over and over when you want to have the look of denim with the feel of leggings.
My one fit note that I have with this Catherines look is that the plaid shirt runs small. I read the reviews and knew to order 1 size up, but it was still a little snug at the bottom if I buttoned it up. I planned on wearing it open, otherwise, I may have sized up 1 more. The good thing about this is that Catherines has an extra hidden button on the inside by the chest so there isn't any gaping like you may be accustomed to with button-down shirts.
A fun styling note if you're not a superfan of denim or want to dress this top up more – it's super cute tied at the bottom with a midi skirt! Next time I wear it, I'll try to snap a photo with it styled like that.
When I was shooting these photos, I took a peek and had a genuine “ooh, that's cute! I look like a lovely lumberlady!” I'm guessing that means there may be more plaid in my future!
