Disclosure: I did a sponsored post for Instagram for this sale, but wanted to share here as well. I'm not being compensated for this post, however there are affiliate links. This means that if you click through and order anything through them, I will earn a small commission at no additonal cost to you. These commissions help me continue my work here, and I greatly appreciate the support!
Today is the official start of the annual Universal Standard Sample Sale, where every item is on sale – some for up to 75% off. The Universal Standard size range can't be matched, with sizes from 00-40 in all items. I find myself reaching for the US items in my closet time and time again because they are well made, high quality, fit wonderfully, and are true wardrobe staples. US let me select some items from this Sample Sale to show you, and I've already placed an order for more from this sale. In addition to the styles I'm going to show you here, some of my long-standing favorites are still available.
About the sale: July 21-August 2nd. Sizes sell out quickly, so I encourage shopping early if you had your eye on something. Styles in this sale are final sale, but there's a pretty robust US fan base on Facebook, Poshmark, and other resale sites that you can tap to sell items that truly don't work out.
About Universal Standard sizing: US has the most size-inclusive range of clothes available right now (other than custom/bespoke options). Sizes 00-40, with incredibly detailed measurements for each item. Their S, M, L etc labels are different than you'll be used to, so if you've not shopped them before – please consult the size chart! I am 5'10 and usually wear a 26/28 in Lane Bryant and ELOQUII. My measurements fall between the US XL and 2XL. I have size labels on all the photos below for reference. Questions about sizing? Let me know!
Meg Short Blazer, 3/4 sleeves, wearing size XL
Viva Boatneck Top, wearing size 2XL
Sava High Rise Flare Jeans, wearing size 26
The blazer is so perfect for any season and occasion. There are definitely coordinating pieces you can get to turn it into a suit, but I really love the look of denim and a blazer, so that's how I styled it here. There is stretch in the fabric so it's not stiff, but still has a good mid-weight to it. They also have this in a long-sleeved version.
The top feels so luxe. It's a smooth, slightly satiny material with a nice weight to drape – as seen with the slight cowl neck. It would be great under a suit and also with jeans. There are other colors available as well. And these flare jeans?! My legs haven't looked this long in a hot minute! I'd usually get a 28 in US pants, but their denim tends to run a size large, thus getting a 26 in these. I may try the 28 as well for when I want a slightly more relaxed fit.
Parker Leather Jacket, wearing size XL
Lilly Stovepipe Tee (something already in my closet), wearing size 2XL
When I say I gasped pulling this out of my box, I'm not exaggerating. I never in my life thought I'd have a genuine leather jacket that would fit my body. This Parker Leather Jacket is so incredibly supple and smells like a dream. It is a true lifetime piece and I honestly can't believe that it's on sale for $264.
(This is me attempting to serve face because I felt like a boss b*tch in this outfit!)
Jenny Wool Sleeveless Jacket, size 2XL
Stephanie Wide Leg pants, size 2XL
This sleeveless jacket (aka a vest) is so sharp with the notch collar and neckline. It can be worn as a wrap top on its own, or layered on top of a long or short-sleeved top. It is a luxe suiting piece and I think it'd also look amazing with denim. There are suiting skirts and pants that match this sleeveless jacket, but for this post, I paired it with a pair of Stephanie pants that I already owned. The Stephanies are probably my favorite pants in my closet – I love them so much that I have them in the size XL and 2XL – 1 for when I want a slimmer leg feel, and 1 for a wider leg like this. I wear them
Crosby Caftan Dress in slate, wearing size 2XL
I've worn this caftan twice in the past 4 days, so that should tell you how much I love it. It's ultra-comfortable, made with a brushed satin twill fabric that has some stretch. It also comes in a true black if the slate isn't your favorite.
Peyton Poplin Shirt Dress in Royal Blue, size 2XL
As I shared in a previous post with another Universal Standard shirt dress, this can be worn so many ways. I loved the royal blue color and the ease of the stretch poplin. This dress has very long, exaggerated french cuffs that I simply cuffed once, but can be worn unbuttoned and long, cuffed multiple times for a 3/4 length, or scrunched. Like with many US items, this dress has deep, functional pockets. Pockets make everything better!
You can shop the specific styles I posted above at the links in the post, or on this page. If you want to shop the entire sale, you can find everything here.
Other favorite US items on sale that I wanted to call out:
- Misa Jersey Dress – I own this easy and flattering tee dress in multiple colors and have been wearing one of them at least once a week this summer.
- Derjon Trench Coat – photo below. I love this trench coat so much that I also want to grab it in white. I am wearing the 2XL in the photo below, but if I ordered again, would probably get the XL for a slightly slimmer fit since I likely wouldn't be wearing it with a super chunky sweater underneath.
- Next to Naked Bike Shorts – I love to wear these when riding the Peloton. They're somehow ultra stretchy but also hold you in without being compressive. All of their Next to Naked styles are amazing, but sizes are limited.
- Nailah Button Down Tunic – I have this in white, and while the white is unfrotunatley not on sale, the gorgeous azure color is.
Any questions? Let me know! Shop the sale here.
