This month I’m participating in #reverb10. Every day a new prompt is issued and I will write my response. The goal is to reflect on 2010 and manifest what’s next in 2011. Want to learn more? Visit www.reverb10.com.
Prompt: Make. What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it?
The last thing I made was my Christmas tree decorations. The tree is an artificial one that my mom purchased forever ago. You have to put each individual branch on, which means fluffing each one first. It is completely a giant time suck but I think the end result is very full and realistic.
For this years tree, I used 2 rolls of wide silver mesh ribbon, 1 50 yard roll of plum and silver wired ribbon, 600 white lights (LEDs and traditional white), my 10 or so “sentimental” ornaments, about 20 beaded faux silver branches, 10 faux “crystals,” 8 purple shatterproof ornaments and about 20 silver shatterproof ornaments plus various other silver ornaments I had, like silver glittery leaves. The ribbons took up so much room, I only used about 1/2 of my ornaments. I also used florists wire to gather and secure the wide mesh ribbon into place, and to create the tree topper out of excess silver mesh.
On my list of things to make right now are:
- This wreath out of coffee filters
- Baked goods for presents
- More quilts. I made 3 basic quilts last year, but none this year. I know I wasn't properly machine quilting them, but have no idea how to do it properly. Want to learn how so I don't kill my mom's machine. I have a couple drawers full of beautiful fabrics. I want to make myself a big quilt to wrap up in when it's cold like tonight.
