I am typically very comfortable in the things I wear, as far as silhouettes, brands, and fabrics. I wear a lot of wrap dresses, fit and flare dresses, and midi skirts with tops. If you were to randomly pick any one of my fashion posts and name one of those 3 styles, and 9 out of 10 times you'd be correct!
Switch It Up is a fun YouTube series where experts challenge other experts to try something new. This series, presented by Ford (who is also presenting this post), might spark some inspiration to try something new for yourself. In the latest episode, stylist Joanna Howley challenges photographer Alice Gao to up her personal style game at a thrift store based on street styles they've discovered. Check out the episode to see what she comes up with:
Prints, Please!
Florals and geometric prints are my friends. Hell, I can even get down with horizontal stripes. But animal prints and super bright patterns make me a little nervous. So I threw myself in head first with this animal print, and then this one (it will be on the blog next week.) Wearing these made me feel a little uncomfortable, but that's to be expected if you're going outside your comfort zone… right??
Casual Comfort
I get compliments on my dresses (thank you!) but you know who I want to compliment? Those who can wear denim and chucks and look amazing. I feel like a luddite when I wear casual clothes. So I alternate between gym clothes and dresses. The middle ground would be so great for the weekends! My latest attempt was a compromise: a denim dress. Still casual, but no pants. Plus, I got to wear my Keds that I bought eons ago.
Bikini-tastic
Probably the biggest leap, and one that hasn't been taken yet: wearing a bikini in public. I've taken selfies in them, and wear them regularly on my back patio in the summer, but never at the pool or a beach. I'll get the chance to conquer this style demon in 2 weeks when I'm in Mexico. I'm taking 3 bikinis! Eeeee!
