Have plans for this Friday, September 21st? If you're in the Lexington area, come out to one of my favorite events: Dress for Success Recycle the Runway.
If you're a fan of Project Runway's unconventional items challenges (or just like clothes in general), you'll love this event. Area designers are given bags of “unsuitable” garments – ones that were donated to Dress for Success Lexington, but aren't quite right for the organization. They then design a look from those garments, and there will be a fashion show to see the designs. A group of judges (including yours truly) will decide the winning designer.
In addition to the show, this year is the first time it's an evening event. Every ticket includes beer and wine for the evening, a buffet dinner and dessert from Nothing But Bundt Cakes. There will be a silent auction (I won a couple items last year!) and a Kendra Scott Jewelry Pull.
And of course, all proceeds benefit Dress for Success Lexington. This is an organization near and dear to my heart for a few reasons. I believe that fashion and an outfit can supply confidence that carries over in so many ways. Most people understand that Dress for Success supplies an interview suit for the participants, and a full weeks worth of clothes upon employment, but it's about so much more than clothes. Dress for Success provides access to their Career Center, professional development, and support to help the participants thrive in work and life. An outfit by itself might not change someone's life, but coupled with the tools and resources Dress for Success has, it's a great start.
I've been a volunteer with Dress for Success Lexington since it's inception in 2013 when it was formed partially with funds from the Junior League of Lexington (of which I'm a board member.) This is a program that changes lives, and those behind it are incredibly passionate about their work and its impact on the community.
So please grab your friends and/or signifiant others and join Steve and I at this event on Friday. And if you're there, please say hello!!!
