I have been working my butt off at the gym, and I thought I was eating okay. I have been staying within a pretty low carb limit, but lunches have been eaten out most of the time. My losses have been pretty slow, in my opinion, based on my size and my activity level. Trainer Rob suggested I become a little more strict with my food this week to see if I can't kick my metabolism into another gear. Can't hurt, right?
So this week, I might be a little more cranky than normal as I'm cutting my calories back. My lunches, it turns out, have been WAY too many calories, and I've gotten sloppy at dinner. Do I need 3 tbsp of olive oil to cook my kale? Heck no. (Kale, by the way, is my favorite new food. For reals.)
Also, to help with my water retention in my legs (my pitting edema continues), I've been consciously trying to sit up straighter at my desk chair, and elevate my feet when possible.
Trainer Rob kicked my butt with a new weight training program on Saturday- the video was just a tiny portion of it- so I broke out my foam roller because my legs were SORE! Funny thing happened, I noticed the foam rolling also helped release a lot of water in my legs as well- they were noticeably less swollen the next morning. Thus, I now have a new commitment to foam roll every day.
What is a foam roller? Sounds like something that would have been on Double Dare, right? It's basically a high density cylinder of foam that you roll on. I would show you a video, but when I'm foam rolling my shins (where I hold a lot of water), it looks like I'm dry humping the floor. So, no. You basically place it under you and use your body weight to “roll” the foam up and down the specified muscles: calves, hamstrings, quads, etc. At first, it kind of hurts, but it feels so good once you get use to it. Think of it as giving yourself a leg massage on aching muscles.
Today is the first day I'm starting to sell on OpenSky, as I talked about here. If you want a foam roller, you can get one using the button below. If you want to borrow mine, you'll have to come to my house to use it, and I do not guarantee that I will not film you using it.
