The past week has been a mixed bag. I'm super busy at work, have a million things I want to write, projects I want to do, outside commitments to fulfill, and FitBloggin‘ preparations for this upcoming week. Don't get me wrong – I LOVE being busy, however it doesn't always mean great things for my weight loss.
2 weeks ago, I only made it to the gym 3 out of my 5 scheduled days. This past week, I didn't make it at all. The good news? Holli and I did a 5K on Saturday. More good news? My food has been in-control, although my first time eating out for dinner in 2 months had me bloated the next day. As I mentioned last week, all of my socks and shoes suddenly are too large. So are my *um* undergarments and many of my pants. It seriously was all of a sudden, and I have actually been able to physically see a difference in my body this week. But still, not nearly enough sleep or exercise to satisfy me right now.
I know my body. After 20 years of dieting, I know that when my body makes these changes, I'm not going to see it on the scale. I'm going to have a plateau, and not working out as much as I should won't help. It's times like these when having a weight loss blog is a little hard because you want to show progress every week. I did, however, have a great mental “aha moment” that I wanted to share.
Tuesday, someone asked if I wanted to do a 5K on Saturday (hi Kristi!). Without hesitation, I said “sure!” As soon as I said it, I realized how different this was for me. When in my past have I ever just said “why not?” to doing a 5K in a few days. No training, no fretting… just doing. Saturday, I met my half-marathon partner-in-crime, Holli, out in the rain to do a 5K for a local elementary school. It felt so short compared to the half-marathon, and it felt great to accomplish something that early on a Saturday. Last July for my first 5K, it seemed like it was so long and so hard. I feel like I barely exerted a small fraction of that effort and still beat my July time by 8 minutes. Who am I?!?
This week: lots and lots of work, trying to make my house somewhat less messy so I don't come home Sunday night to a disaster, lots of FitBloggin' things to wrap up, and then FitBloggin' Thurs-Sun!!! There will be a 5k there on Friday (2 5Ks in 2 weeks!) and lots of other fitness activities like Zumba, Trampoline, an Ugi demonstration and more. I will go ahead and apologize in advance for the massive amount of FitBloggin' talk between now and a couple of weeks after the conference.
If you want a laugh, check out the most awful photo of me ever. A wet Emmie finishing the race:
And if you are good at “Where's Waldo?” you can see Holli and I in this starting line video:
