Drop Dead Diva Plus Fashion

I LOVE the television show Drop Dead Diva. I LOVE Brooke Elliott, the star who plays Jane Bingum – the former skinny, blonde model Deb who returned to earth in the shell of a plus size attorney. (Seriously, you need to watch it to understand).

I love seeing such a smart, successful, plus size woman on television. But I have found myself watching episodes critiquing her outfits.

Brooke has a rockin' bod, but I feel that she's not always dressed in the best clothes for her figure, or they feel too dark or matronly. I pulled a lot of shots to write what I liked, and disliked about them. Perhaps I'm being too picky, but I want her to look as amazing as she is!!!

This particular photo is to counteract the “but she's an attorney – she has to dress conservatively” argument. Kim (on left) is also an attorney, yet she has color and modern cut on.

I am not sure I've ever seen Jane Bingum in a great pair of trousers, or a length of skirt that isn't 2″ above her knees. Don't get me wrong – I LOVE shorter skirts, but I really think the length on her skirts is always just a little too short. This particular photo isn't that bad, but when she's running around the courtroom, they always seem just a little too short and they cut her off in an odd spot on the thigh. I think knee-length would create a much sleeker line on her. I also think fabulous wide-leg, tailored trousers with her pumps would be awesome.

This was part of a dream sequence, so I realize the point was to show Jane as a stark contrast to the other blonde, neutral pageant contestants. That being said, I think this dress has so many things wrong with it – she could look much better and still have the point achieved with a different dress. Anything from Tadashi Shoji, David Meister, Melissa Masse, or IGIGI by Yuliya Raquel would have been infinitely better.
