Last night I really wasn't feeling up-to-snuff to do my regular strength and conditioning workout that was scheduled, but I still wanted to do some sort of activity. Enter a quick 10-minute stretching routine on FitnessGlo that fit the bill perfectly. I did it in my pajamas in my home office. My husband looked at me funny when he came home, but that's a common occurrence, so no skin off my back!
FitnessGlo is a website that has tons of workout videos that are taught by great instructors. No fancy sets or waterfall backdrops, these classes are just as if you were taking them in your gym's group fitness room. My schedule has been a little hectic lately, and these were really convenient to have. There is a mix of cardio dance, step, balance, core work, strength, and stretching classes, and new ones are added constantly. What really got me to try this though? A lady named Petra Kolber, who is one of the instructors on FitnessGlo:
A little story:
In the late 90's, I was going to fat camp every summer trying to lose weight. Of course looking back, I really should have been happy with my body and my fitness because I was really in shape.
Anyway, I loved step aerobics, so my mom got me a Petra Kolber Dance Step video (old school VHS). I loved Petra, the instructor, so much. She had energy without being over-the-top annoying, and a fun accent. She cued wonderfully, which makes a world of difference when trying not to trip over your feet and a step. The video was only 30 minutes long, and I could come home from school, pop it in, and be done with it quickly. As soon as I learned all the moves, I started to add “power” to them – adding a hop or putting a little extra funk into it. I had so much freaking fun.
The summer before college, I actually taught aerobics back at fat camp. I did kickboxing (inspired by Tae-Bo) and step aerobics, inspired by Petra. I loved her moves like her step version of the mambo and Charleston. With her, I mastered the rocking horse and around-the-world. Even though it's been 12 years, I can still remember sequences from that video.
I actually had this comment on my Facebook page this past week and I was kind of dumb-struck because I had just finished a Petra Kolber step video on FitnessGlo, sans-step because unfortunately I don't have one (you can do it all on the floor though!):
An awesome blast from the past from someone who liked my step aerobics classes that were inspired by Petra's video!
Anyway, so I already had a strong affinity for FitnessGlo because I got to remember how much I loved that workout, and the videos on the site didn't disappoint. There are also several other really good instructors like Ilyse Baker who has some really fun dance classes.
A lot of the videos are short in length, and you can create playlists to form your own continuous workout. So many options!
I'm headed out of town for part of next week and am going to do some FitnessGlo workouts from my hotel room with my tablet. So convenient for removing the obstacles of being short on time and equipment.
