I can't believe it, but 6 weeks has passed since my ankle surgery and I'm cast-free. My cast was removed this morning and I promptly got a pedicure at the PEDSpa in my podiatrists office. The skin on the casted foot was just horrendous, so it was wonderful to get all the betadine off and skin scrubbed.
I am now back in my oh-so-familiar walking boot, although I probably won't master walking for a little bit. I can bear weight on the foot, but having not used that leg in 6 weeks, it's terrifying. I was shocked to see how small my leg looks compared to my other one. The calf and muscle over my shin have shrunk so much. I mean, I knew I wasn't using them, but it's odd to see. I hope I can build it up quickly. To assist with that, I'm headed to physical therapy 2-3 times a week for up to 6 weeks. My knee walker is still around for right now and I've also got crutches to help with the transition.
I'm so excited that this might finally be the beginning of the end of my ankle problem. I just need to practice lots of patience as I try to regain strength and then head back into the gym. My trainer Molly is going to work with me as I ease back into activity.
Also? Today is Day 28 of my Whole30. Time is flying by!
Thanks for sticking with me through this ankle saga!
