Fall is in full swing, and while it was hard to come home from our tropical honeymoon to the wind and cooler temps, it's still my favorite time of year! I love everything about fall – the return of cozy layering pieces, boots, warm autumnal colors, spiced cider – all of it. Today, I'm sharing a favorite fall outfit from Catherines. Such a favorite that I've worn it 3 times since I got it 2 weeks ago. That's major for me, the person who usually prefers dresses over denim!

My style typically stays in the classic category, and the elements of this outfit are a great example. The classic plaid pattern of this ruana is timeless, and the gray color means it works with nearly whatever shirt you put under it. (Side note: My pup Ruby also thinks it's an excellent blanket. I left it on the sofa when I went to do something and she wound herself up in it like it was her personal cocoon). The crisscross tee is a great as a layering piece, or worn on its own. It's super soft, and comes in several colors. The crisscross detail at the top adds a little visual interest, without being cut too low for cooler weather.
And can we talk about the denim? Me and jeans have a complicated relationship. I usually end up with a waistband too tight and droopy bum, and legs end up all over the place on the fit spectrum. These jeggings come in multiple washes and are really soft and comfortable. They have a lot of stretch, so the legs were perfect: contoured fit but not too tight where I can't move. I was able to tuck them into my boots with ease. Nearly every other pair of jeans I own, I rip off as soon as I get home. Not these. Comfort level=max.
You could use the elements of this outfit in several ways:
- Add more color by changing out the layering tee
- Wear the ruana over a swing dress and tights
- Swap out the boots for flats
- Wear the jeggings with nearly any other top you have – they are such a comfortable, elevated casual style
In addition to some versatile and classic casual pieces like this, Catherines also has a lot of styles that would work well for holiday parties (like this dress – I just got it and will share soon!), and as always, everyday work wear. Catherines has long been a leader in offering fashion for women in extended plus sizing – they offer sizes 16-34. For reference, I usually wear a 3X in their pieces, which is a 26/28. For the tee, I sized up to a 4X for extra length in the torso. The ruana is one size.
