Derby Day Outfit Idea: Red Hot and Polka Dots

Today I'm excited to share my race day look 2 of 3 from Macy's. The first one was great for a traditional spring feel, and also for Oaks, where pink reigns supreme.

This look is a little more bold than the first for those looking to create some pops of color with a touch of traditional prep.

As soon as I saw this polka dot dress in-store. I knew I wanted to wear it with bold accessories. The dress is ivory and dark navy dots, so you could go with a navy fascinator or hat if you wanted to keep it more tone-on-tone.

The headpieces at Macy's Oxmoor Center in Louisville come in a rainbow of colors. This bright red hatinator gives the drama of a hat with the comfort of a fascinator. The most important element in selecting a race day hat is comfort. No matter how cute a hat or fascinator, if you're going to fidget with it all day, it will diminish the experience.

Fit Notes: I'm wearing this Jessica Howard dress in a 22 as the 24 was sold out in-store (it's in stock right now online). This was a lesson in always trying everything on – I thought for sure the 22 wouldn't work, but it did! It's a stretch scuba material and very comfortable. I'm 5'10 to give you an idea of length.

About the shoes: I don't wear heels often, especially after my ankle surgery a few years ago. These Bandolino pumps are labeled a medium width, but I find them to be very roomy. The heel is also very stable. This color isn't available online right now, but it is in-store. Macy's is one of my favorite places to find shoes for my 11W feet, and this in-store find is another example of why!
